Whirligig circa 19th century period design
This whirligig is handcrafted from salvaged and antique materials. One hundred year-old heart pine was carved to create the whirligig. Copper and iron were incorporated into the sculpture as well. Buttermilk paint was applied in numerous layers then removed to give the piece a timeworn appearance. Piece is mounted on a metal mount for display purposes.
The subject matter relating to biblical themes, as folk art has always been something I have been drawn to and wanted to carve. This is my first whirligig based on this subject matter.
