Rosie The Riveter

hand carved from basswood and painted with a multi-layered antiqued finish.
I've always been a fan of J. Howard Miller's iconic war time poster featuring Rosie The Riveter. Before now, I have never used another artist's work as a direct inspiration for a carving of my own, but I've made an exception in this case. I've enjoyed carving many different historical figures through the years, and Rosie is one I've been eager to interpret in wood form for some time now. She has long been a symbol of American pride, resilience, and strength, and I am proud to make her the latest addition to my historical collection.
