"I watch out the studio window
as they make their way across the hard snow,
long legs and black high-heeled hooves breaking through crusty ice.
I follow their tails, walking their trails through the bare woods.
We haven’t seen the leftover autumn grass in months,
and the landscape is white, brown and gray.
I take a long draw, inhaling the coming scent of wet earth,
and we dream of green."
